G’day!
You always play two matches when you step onto the court to compete.
- During the point.
- Between the points.
We have all heard how tennis is such a mental game. Staying focused on your game plan and the opponent is a crucial element of that.
The August 18th webinar (Serve Strategy: Patterns, Percentages & Drills) details the many facets of holding serve in a match. One area that is covered is the “Eight Serve Factors.” This is a checklist of things to consider before you serve to give yourself the best chance of winning the point. Here they are:
EIGHT SERVE FACTORS
- Where does my opponent think I am going to serve?
- Where do I want the ball to come back?
- What are the opponent’s strengths & weaknesses?
- What is the score?
- What is my favorite serve?
- What is my highest percentage serve?
- What are the natural conditions? (sun, wind, slope of court)
- Where is my opponent standing?
I go into much greater detail explaining this list in The 25 Golden Rules of Singles Strategy. They are actually Golden Rule #2!
Watch this short video I shot in Hong Kong that covers three of the eight. They are:
- Where does my opponent think I am going to serve?
- Where do I want the ball to come back?
- What is the score?
